Accessing A Genius
Part 3
On the panel that night at NLP University's 40th NLP Anniversary Celebration was Robert Dilts, Ian McDermott, Frank Pucelik, and Cristina Hall (no relation to Michael). Frank Pucelik had dominated every panel he was on with his loud voice and charismatic and yet somewhat polarizing words. He also sat right next to Dr. Hall this evening. For sure, I thought, Dr. Hall was going to be nearly nonexistent among the powerhouse of NLP talent and personality that surrounded him. And with Frank sitting next to him, whatever came out of Dr. Hall's mouth would seem meek and mild compared to Frank. Sometimes I'm happy to be wrong. Dilts started the discussion and the microphone was democratically passed starting from left to right so that every teacher would have a chance to speak. Ian McDermott gave a very articulate and intelligent contribution in his British accent. Next was Dr. Hall. Call it a state shift for lack of a better explanation but Dr. Hall suddenly came alive and my attention was drawn to him for more reasons than just that he happened to be holding the microphone. His voice took on a resonate and grounded tone. Suddenly his body communicated enthusiasm and congruence in a way that would have been interesting even if he wasn't saying a word. This was not the same man who had signed my books. He was riveting and interesting in both state and content. He turned to Frank and recounted a story of getting Frank to calm down and talk to him by feeding him glasses of wine. No way! I thought. He was stealing Frank's thunder before Frank could even speak. Dr. Hall remained respectful of everyone on the panel and did not try to take more time than allotted nor did he grandstand or boast. No one on the panel casted a shadow over him and neither did he over anyone else. He created his place on the stage which was ferocious and nonthreatening at the same time.β As the panel continued and everyone chimed in at different times, Dr. Hall continued to impress me and everyone else with his presence. Not only is he a brilliant writer, I thought, he's a brilliant speaker as well. How did he do this? I wanted answers and fortunately I would soon get them. To Be Continued…..
