Welcome back to Part 2 of Creating Lasting Change. Remember I have a big announcement coming up this Saturday when the 3rd and final part will be released.
If you're feeling like you're life is stagnant or stuck or that you're treading in mediocre waters, which most of us experience from time to time, how do you get out of it?
How do you break through the plateau and start improving yourself and your life again?
It's time to get unbalanced.
Most people think of balance as a good thing and most of the time that is true. However, mediocrity is a kind of balance. It's not a good balance but it is a balance nonetheless.
Think about times when you tried to make a change in your life only to find yourself snapping right back into old patterns and habits.
This happens a lot when people are trying to lose weight or quit smoking.
I struggled with this a lot financially. Every time I made extra money or got a bonus suddenly my car would breakdown (or some other issue that cost me money to fix) and I had to use the bonus to repair it keeping me from making even a small financial gain.
So how do you unbalance your life to rebalance at a higher level where you're tapping into your potential?
Tap into your lack of satisfaction. Get unsatisfied in other words.
"What is he talking about?" you might be thinking. "I want to be satisfied and fulfilled, not unsatisfied."
First, let's recap.
In my previous blog, I wrote about identifying when you're making excuses so you can interrupt this pattern. Why? Because excuses are a distraction from you getting what you want.
Excuses aren't the only distraction we use. There are endless distractions we can use to keep ourselves from what we want; alcohol, food, sex, TV, even healthy habits like exercise.
What are we really distracting ourselves from?
We're distracting ourselves from that nagging feeling in the background, your lack of satisfaction with your life.
We will do almost anything to not feel it so you distract yourself from it.
Instead of moving away from this feeling, move into the feeling. Reconnect with it. It will seem counterintuitive, but it's necessary.
It's not going to feel good at first but it's just a temporary step to creating lasting change because when you face it you will have a choice; either keep distracting yourself from it because it doesn't feel good or take action to change it.
You're going to take action. It's the only way to break out of this.
What action?
Get clear about what you want now. Your desire is the guide, not the desire to move away from, but the desire to move toward what you want.
For some of you when you do this what you want is going to gush out of you and be as clear as day.
But for a lot of you, it's still going to take you some time to get clear about this. That's okay. You have time.
Time and effort spent getting clear about what you want is much better than time and effort spent distracting yourself from being deeply unfulfilled.
Okay now what?
