How NLP Works

Instead of trying to explain what NLP is, it's better to understand how it works since it is an experiential model.
If we operated from objective reality we would all behave the same way and we would all be having the same life experience. Clearly this is not the case.
Some people are happy and some are sad. Some people are successful and some are not. Why? Because each of us is having our own subjective experience.
If we can code the subjective experience then we can understand the structure of it. When we do this we can change how we experience reality which will have the effect of changing your reality.
This is quite extraordinary! This is why NLP was and still is such an extraordinary breakthrough even though the novelty of it may have worn off.
Here's how it works.
You take in information through your five senses (Neuro). Language, words, how you put words together is an expression of your internal representation of reality (Linguistic). Language is also reflexive meaning your words affect your reality and your reality affects your words.
When you receive information you internally re-present it or represent it. You couldn't possibly reconstruct all of objective reality in your mind. It would be too overwhelming so you construct a map or model of reality.
One way we do this is to create programs (Programming). You can think of this as automation. In order to save time and energy rethinking decisions like whether or not to turn left or right on your commute to work, you've created an automated program to get you there with little if any conscious thought.
The primary purpose of NLP is to recognize what you want, find a person or model who is creating the same thing you want, model their subjective experience in that area and replicate that success for yourself.
Fortunately since NLP has been around long enough, many of these success techniques and processes have already been incorporated into NLP so you don't have to go out and model people.
Good NLP trainings supply you with success models you can implement immediately in order to create what you desire.
