How To Get Out Of Your Own Way - NLP MindShift

Have you found what you're looking for?
Actually you have. You will find what you're looking for even if it's not actually there.
You will hear what you're listening for and you will feel what you're feeling for.
What am I talking about?
If there's something you want to do, but you haven't gotten started because you're thinking of all the reasons not to do it. You're focused on the risks and the threats therefore you're afraid and you hesitate.
You see images or a movie of you failing and this becomes your reality.
You've found what you're looking for.
The same goes for hearing and feeling.
You listen for those critical voices. If you tune in to them, you will hear them.
You feel for those unpleasant feelings and you find them.
Take a look at your life. How is it? Is life good or even great? Is it so-so? Or is it miserable?
What if I told you that whatever your answer is to the above question is up to you?
Some things we can't control, that's true. But you do control the meaning you make of even the bad things that happen to you.
The mistake most people make is trying to go at the meaning directly. If you're miserable for example and you try to change that meaning to something positive, it will have the effect of amplifying the misery.
If you're life is just so-so and you try to change that meaning directly to something better, what typically happens is you feel high highs and low lows.
So what's the solution?
Let's call the meaning you make of something a category. You have a bad experience, you file it in your mind under the category "Bad". You have a good experience and you file that experience in your mind under "Good".
How you create that category, which is the sensory based information; what you see, hear, and feel is how you decide to categorize it.
If you're focusing on the sensory information of problems, threats, risks, and fears and you're surrounding yourself with these types of images, sounds, voices, and feelings, what do you think your life will be like?
On the other hand, what if you surround yourself with visuals of who you want to become, the goals you want to achieve, and the internal voices that encourage and empower you?
You can take it even further by recategorizing the bad experiences into larger categories of learning, patience, and acceptance.
If you can take that first step of owning that whatever your life is like is your creation, as painful as it may be at first, you've just achieved radical responsibility.
Now you can change your life. Now you're in control.
If you choose to believe that the meaning of your life is created by outside circumstances and you don't have control over it, you will live a life at the mercy of outside circumstances, which will create suffering and insecurity.
If you're looking for problems to solve, you'll never run out of them. If you're looking for solutions though, you'll never run out of those either. Which would you prefer?
At any time you can choose to nourish your mind with sensory based information of the life you want to create and the person you want to become.
