It's that time again to make your resolutions. Here are a few tips to making sure you stick to them. One of the reasons we don't stick to our resolutions is because we make too many, we get overwhelmed, and when we don't stick to one we tend to give up on all of the other ones. It's sort of like getting a flat tire and getting out of your car and slashing the other three. Make no more than three resolutions, two would probably be better. If you go with three make small ones. Don't go with three big ones. Write yourself a resolution or goal letter dated January 15, 2018. That's not a typo. Imagine it's January 2018 and you're writing to yourself, the past you, which is really the present day you. Confused? Just pretend it's one year from now and write yourself a letter to the you sitting here right now. Tell yourself the two to three wonderful things you did, experienced, accomplished, etc. over the past year. Use sensory based words. Don't just write, "I made $20,000 extra dollars. It's great!" Write: "I saw the numbers in my bank account getting bigger. New clients called me up and told me what a great job I did for them and referred me more new clients." Step into the future and experience what your reality is like now that you've received the benefits of your resolutions. What do you see, hear, and feel? What mindset do you have here that made this possible? What resources did you need to access in the year to stick to the resolutions? Take this understanding back with you to the present and see an image of yourself, an image of you one year from now, the you who has already solved, accomplished, created, etc. whatever you wanted to in 2017. Make the image big, bright, and make the colors rich. Tune up the image in whatever way makes it most compelling. Check in with your letter to yourself throughout the year just to see if you're on track. I don't recommend doing this daily. I do it about four times a year. Find what works best for you. Happy New Year!
