Waking Up To Your Unconscious Programming

Greetings from Thailand.

You’ve probably heard me talk about the benefits of travel for your own personal development. I can’t say enough about it.

When you get out of your routine and your everyday habits you’re presented with a unique opportunity; an opportunity to become conscious of your unconscious programming.

Why is this important?

Because it’s likely the solution to nearly all, if not all, of your problems.

This usually doesn’t feel good; that’s why they call it getting out of your comfort zone.

Actually it can feel really good for a while as you let go of rigid routines and get a sense of freedom you haven’t felt in a long time. It will likely turn into fear and discomfort though and because the root of it is unconscious the natural tendency is to move away from it and move toward what is familiar and comfortable.

Some people travel and some people take vacation. Vacation is going to a resort someplace that’s not home and not a place you frequent often where you can unwind and rest. It’s what you do to take a break and to be comfortable and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s quite important too.

Travel is different though. Travel is about learning and growing and what precedes learning and growth is confusion and discomfort. No wonder people get set in their ways.

In this video I use the example of physical health. New eating and sleeping habits are established during teenagery. Why? Because you’re growing and growing takes more rest and more calories and nutrients.

In our late teens we stop growing, but often we stick to our habits because they’re comfortable and they’re unconscious.

In my early 20s I noticed that I was gaining weight and it didn’t matter how much I slept I still felt tired. I was still eating and sleeping like a teenager and it was time to change or else move rapidly toward health problems and that’s exactly what I did.

I see people all the time in their late 20s and early 30s (and beyond) still eating and sleeping like teenagers and because they’re overeating, gaining weight, and sleeping too much they still feel tired and therefore think they need more sleep. It can be a vicious cycle to break.

Wake up to your programs. Notice when there is a problem. Get honest with yourself and discover the habit or habits that are creating the problem and you’ll uncover the program. Once you’re conscious of the program, you can change it.

Travel can be a great way to uncover unconscious programs because it puts you out of the usual context that your programs are set up for.

Once that happens you become more conscious of the program. This usually starts with discomfort and irritability. Don’t run from it. Listen to the feeling. Allow yourself to feel it and become conscious of its intent.

You’ll be amazed by what you will learn.
